Hag Hammayim - חַג הַמַּיִם

Pronunciation: Hag ham·ma·yim

Literal translation: Waters of salvation, Festival of Water



As Jewish holidays begin at sundown then they also end at sundown which means it is still Shavuot in Israel. חַג הַמַּיִם is one name for the holiday of Shavuot but a more well-known name is חַג הַקָּצִיר.

Did you know? חַג הַמַּיִם is a custom that originated in Jewish communities in North Africa where water is poured on one another based on the belief that someone that having water poured on you means you will not receive any damage during the year.
