Literal translation: Free, unrestricted
Hofeshi is an adjective meaning 'free' in terms of time among other things, whilst hofesh is the noun that means freedom and is used colloquially to mean holiday. The "Hofesh Hagadol", in Israel, is the big summer holiday that everybody waits for year-round.
